E3 Madness - Spiderman

E3 Madness - Spiderman

We’re a couple of days and/or weeks removed from E3 madness, and while gamers, journalists and influencers from all over the world are still roaming the halls in Los Angeles playing the latest upcoming titles, the rest of us are left to stew over everything we’ve seen. And there was a lot! Playstation hit us with Gameplay from some of the absolute gems of their first party studios while new studios acquisitions graced Microsoft's stage alongside Xbox tentpoles and Nintendo dropped Smash. All of Smash. So. Much. Smash.

This is the first real E3 we’ve been able to experience together at The Arcade Vaults, so we thought it’d be fun to hear from some of our friends, volunteers and regulars about the industries biggest event!

I wanted to go first though… ;)

Because oh my god Spiderman looks amazing! I’m a massive Spidey  fan, Spiderman 2 remains one of my favourite games AND movies of all time (fight me) so when I heard the team at Insomniac would be helming a huge new title for the Playstation 4 I couldn't stop myself grinning. The latest Ratchet and Clank was fresh in my memory having been an incredibly fun experience despite it’s underwhelming movie counterpart. I've been playing Insomniac Games for years as have most Playstation gamers so to hear they take the reigns was an exciting prospect.

All the above having been said though, what could possibly be shown at E3 to fire up the engine for that long push towards it’s September release. The incredible Demo featuring stealth combat, Crane disasters and chopper chases showed me all i needed to see, and we’re only a couple of months removed from Gamespot.com’s extensive coverage of the game featuring interviews with the developers, gameplay footage and tidbits galore on what Sony’s big summer blockbuster has in store. I was god. Happy to wait. I don't need anything else.

Let’s keep in mind that Spiderman closed the show. The Last of Us Part II opened strongly showed amazing gameplay, followed and arguably matched by Sucker Punch and The Ghost of Tsushima which I battled over when trying to think of a game to write about for this. Death Stranding is still as baffling as it is intriguing but Kojima has me all in until launch and seeing Remedy’s new project Control was exciting. But Spiderman. God I love Spiderman. And this is looks to be a Spiderman game to the bones.

There were concerns after previous trailers that Mr.Negative might not hold a whole game single handedly, and cameos from the likes of the Kingpin might not hold it all together. That does not look to be an issue. The Raft featured in Insomniacs E3 trailer and showed off what looks to be the Sinister Six sans their final member, and the collection rogues, with amazing character designs that look and sound, classic with that fresh modern twist, are enough to convince me that what we’re getting as a true Web-Head game though and through. Classic Villains, a smart quippy Peter Parker, and as even more open world gameplay surfaces a New York City that looks as beautiful as it does bustling and filled with busy work.

Maybe its because its so close to launch but no game at E3 has me as excited as I am for Spiderman.
